Presentation

Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa was born in Barnovichi (USSR, now Belarus) in 1964, and grew up in Kyiv. After graduating from the Kyiv Polytechnic with a degree in applied mathematics, he went on to study filmmaking at the VGIK in Moscow, and has made more than two dozen documentary and fiction features since 1996, among them My Joy (2010), an Official Competition selection at the Festival de Cannes; In the Fog (2012), which won the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes; and Donbass (2018), which was awarded the prize for Best Directing in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. The documentary State Funeral (2019) is his most recent fim.
