Rian Johnson was born in Silver Spring (USA) in 1973. After making several short films, he wrote and directed his feature directorial debut, the multiple-award-winning Brick (2005), which he followed with The Brothers Bloom (2008). He had a major breakthrough with Looper (2012), which opened the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to win numerous prizes and worldwide popular and critical acclaim. He has since made Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Knives Out (2019), as well as directing for television, with credits including episodes of Terriers (2010) and Breaking Bad (2010-13).
