Screening of the film “Stateless” December the 6th at 5PM at the Congress Palace in the Ambassadors Room

In a quaint beach town on the border between Morocco and Algeria, an elderly widower is returned by his son to the family home so he can live out his last years in peace. Hénia, a young woman who was orphaned in her childhood and raised in a neighbouring house, is assigned to the old man’s domestic care. When the patriarch asks to be married to Hénia despite his son’s outrage, Hénia sees an opportunity to acquire identity documents at last – when she was forced to leave Algeria in 1975, her Moroccan father disappeared along with her papers, while her Algerian mother was left behind. Stateless is a cry against the hypocrisy of borders, and an ode to the dignified resilience of women.
