Shireen Seno was born to a Filipino family in Japan, where she spent most of her childhood. She graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA in architectural studies and cinema studies. After starting her film career shooting stills for Lav Diaz and John Torres, she directed her award-winning debut feature, Big Boy (2013), which had its premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and went on to screen at numerous festivals and institutions. Nervous Translation, her subsequent project, was selected for the Venice International Film Festival’s inaugural Biennale College, among other development programmes, and premiered at IFFR in 2018.
