Born in Lisbon, Sara CF de Gouveia is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer. Her feature-length documentary Mama Goema (2011) won an audience award at the Tri-Continental Film Festival, and screened at festivals worldwide. Her other films include the award-winning short film Scarlet Days (2013); NGIYAPHILA: Spirituality and Sexuality (2016), a short film for Steps for the Future that was launched at the Durban AIDS conference; and Lonmin: Put Your House in Order and Hunted for Their Body Parts (both 2016) for Amnesty International. The Sound of Masks (2018) is her most recent film.
