Markus Schleinzer was born in Vienna. From 1994 to 2010 he worked as a casting director and was engaged in the production of numerous feature films by directors including Jessica Hausner, Ulrich Seidl, and Michael Haneke. Working on Haneke’s The White Ribbon (2009) gave him the confidence to write and direct Michael (2011), his provocative, multi-award-winning debut, which had its premiere in the Official Competition at the Festival de Cannes. He is also a critically acclaimed stage and screen actor. Angelo (2018) is his second feature-length film.
