A Senegalese director and cinematographer, Mamadou Dia obtained his MFA in writing and directing from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2017. Prior to his Master’s studies, Dia worked as a video journalist based in Dakar, and travelled throughout the African continent covering socio-political, economic, and cultural issues and events. His most recent short film, Saturday Cinema (2016), had its premiere in the Orizzonti section of the Venice International Film Festival and was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival. Shot entirely in northern Senegal, his debut feature-length film Nafi’s Father (2019) had its premiere at the Locarno Festival.
