Lila Avilés studied direction and performing arts with some of Mexico’s leading theater figures, as well as film writing. After beginnings as an actor, she started directing for the stage, with works including Gardenia Club, Microdermoabrasión, which won a National Theater Award), Antígona, and The Chambermaid, which provided the inspiration for her first feature-length film of the same name. The project was selected for the Los Cabos Film Festival Gabriel Figueroa Work in Progress Fund as well as for the Ventana Sur First Cut Select program, and went on to receive the Labo Digital Postproduction Award, among other prizes.
