JASMINE TRINCA

JASMINE TRINCA

Actress, Italy

Citation

“For me, cinema shouldn’t be just entertainment. It can help us better understand our times. […] Italian cinema, like the country itself, is so obsessed about entertainment that I don’t have any choice. I have to go to where new things are happening. […] In France, I like the roles that actresses are being offered, but above all, I like the fact that cinema is something hardy. […] The movie theater is a special place. Everyone sits in the dark, together looking at something which illuminates us. I always look at people, there is something sacred in their eyes.”

Presentation

Jasmine Trinca’s screen debut was the 2001 picture The Son’s Room by Nanni Moretti, which won the Palme d’Or at the Festival de Cannes. She emerged as one of the most talented actresses of her generation. Her discreet charm has graced the works of directors like Bertrand Bonello, Marco Tullio Giordana, Emmanuel Mouret, the Taviani brothers, and Valeria Golino. In 2009, her role in the domestic hit The Big Dream by Michele Placido won her the Marcello Mastroianni Award for best newcomer at the Venice Film Festival.
