Born in London (UK), he studied graphic design at St Martin’s School of Art, where he received a BA Hons. 1st Class degree. He worked as a director in
advertising and won dozens of awards for his work including a BAFTA . He is a partner at the production company Knucklehead. His first film, The Tonto Woman, a 35-minute western based on a short story by Elmore Leonard, was nominated for an Oscar in 2008. His first feature, Harry Brown – a mirror on the stark realities of youth crime in the 21st century – premiered at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.
