He was discovered at the largest Russian National Film Festival Kinotaur where in 2007 he won the Best Debut Award for his film Hard-Hearted. That year, he also won the Jury Prize at the Marrakech Film Festival. He directed two other feature films, both very positively received at European film festivals: he won the Best Director Prize at Locarno for his film Tambourine, Drum, and his third film The Convoy was featured at Berlin. Noticing the young director’s talent, producer Alexander Rodnyansky offered him a chance to finance his new project The Duelist.
