Synopsis

Lynn and Lucy have been best mates since school, and so it remains: now in their twenties, they live in council housing across the road from one another. Lynn, a mother since she was eighteen, has just landed her first job; perennial party-girl Lucy now has a newborn son. When something dreadful happens to Lucy, reliable Lynn comes to her aid – but this instinctive support falters in the face of vicious gossip. There are echoes of the class- conscious social drama of Ken Loach (an associate producer on the film) here, and it makes for a clever allegory of Brexit and its fallout, but the driving power of Lynn + Lucy lies in its precise consideration of the deceptively simple, devastatingly human experience of hurt feelings.
