Synopsis

Four years after the death of His Holiness the 13th Dalai Lama, the search for his successor is nearly at an end: the next reincarnation of the Buddha of Compassion has been found in a remote village in Tibet. So begins Martin Scorsese’s epic telling of the life story of Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th and current Dalai Lama. Sumptuous art direction, the breathtaking landscape of Tibet, and precise attention to detail provide Kundun with a stunning backdrop for the story of a revered spiritual leader and proponent of non-violence, at the same time that it outlines and laments the recent history of the oppression of the people of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China.
