Synopsis

Widowed and in her seventies, Diane spends her time driving from place to place in her Massachusetts community, filling her days with small but meaningful kindnesses – serving the needy at church suppers, visiting an ailing cousin in hospital, delivering casseroles to neighbors, and chatting with old friends. Her heaviest burdens are dealing with her son, his drug abuse and his refusal to re-enter rehab, and guilt for a decades-old transgression. But, as her generation dies off and she is increasingly alone, her familiar life vanishing before her eyes, Diane finds she is confronted with herself, her solitude, and the possibility of forgiveness. Anchored by an exquisitely powerful central performance from Mary Kay Place, Kent Jones’s Diane delivers a thoughtful meditation on the passage of time.
